SRINAGAR, May 23: The National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah today vowed to continue the peaceful and democratic struggle for restoration of scrapped rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing an NC rally at DH Pora, Kulgam, the NC leader questioned how parties which are associated with BJP can protect the unique character of Jammu and Kashmir.
“PDP brought BJP here in 2015 but after that the people here got nothing but frustration, hardship, fear, oppression, uncertainty and disrespect. Today, the doors of employment are closed for our youth, our land is being taken away through various pretexts, no one dares to speak the truth, freedom of expression is restricted, the youth are being picked up from here and locked up in the prisons of foreign states,” he said.
Abdullah said that PDP is talking about fighting for the rights of the people and adopting new tactics to mislead and divide the people.
Urging the public to reject anti-Kashmir forces, recalling the historical struggle led by his grandfather, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Omar said: “We have started a peaceful and democratic struggle for the restoration of our democratic rights, just as Sheikh Abdullah did. We were once sold like cattle, but Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah fought for our freedom. Today, we face economic and political slavery again, and it is the duty of every conscious citizen to protect our historical state.”
Abdullah accused BJP and agencies from New Delhi and Nagpur of trying to weaken the National Conference. He urged voters to counter these conspiracies with their votes on May 25 as their counterparts did in North and central Kashmir areas.
“We are fighting for the entire nation, advocating for the release of all prisoners held in jails outside J&K. When the National Conference Government is formed in September, we will prioritize their release,” he pledged.
Abdullah hit out at BJP for carrying out anti-Muslim manifesto during election campaigns across the country.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the rally, the NC vice-president said whenever BJP addresses public meetings in the ongoing campaigning for Lok Sabha elections, it has been observed that it expressed venom and hate against Muslims living in the country.
He said that the voters of the country will give answer to BJP’s discriminatory outlook on June 4 when new PM will be elected.
Abdullah said the elections in Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat shouldn’t have been delayed. “It has been a long campaign. “The polls shouldn’t have been deferred here. They (ECI) delayed it while citing bad weather as a reason,” he added.
