JAMMU, Apr 1: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy CM Kavinder Gupta today said the Omar Abdullah’s statement that Muslims were being targeted for the spread of Coronavirus was a ‘symbol of his cheap thinking’ and he should apologize to the countrymen for his statement.
“In view of the countrywide lockdown to prevent the further spread of Coronavirus, everyone has been asked to stay indoors. Air, rail and road transport services have been suspended by the Central Government as part of its up scaled preparatory mechanism. Offices are closed and all have been requested not to come out of their homes. When a pandemic outbreaks, it does not distinguish between Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians; it strikes all,” he said.
He said all religious places have been shut and gatherings banned but despite that people gathered at Nizamuddin in New Delhi. It needs to be probed as to how such a large event occurred despite Pan India restrictions, he asserted.
“The pandemic has multiplied because of those who were part of the Nizamuddin congregation. Other people, who caught infection from them, are now dying. This is intolerable,” Kavinder said and asked Omar to apologize to the countrymen for his statement.
The BJP leader said the UT administration was doing a commendable job in initiating the requisite steps to prevent the further spread of the pandemic. He urged the people of J&K to maintain social distancing and strictly stay indoors.
