JAMMU, Sept 17: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today expressed its serious concern over disturbing escalation of cease-fire violation cases on the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB). The party also expressed its anguish over prevailing situation in the State in general and Kashmir valley in particular.
In a meeting, which was conveyed today under the chairmanship of party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to discuss present situation in the State, party leaders regretted that situation on the borders was deteriorating due to unabated incidents of cease-fire violation. They pointed out that the residents of Jammu and Kashmir were bearing maximum brunt of the skirmish on the borders and were the worst victim of hostility between India and Pakistan.
Speakers recalled that it was during the regime of PDP that cease-fire was announced in the year 2003 and peace was restored all along the border from Kathua to Kargil. “The cease fire announced at that time had brought positives changes in lives of the common people of Jammu and Kashmir but unfortunately the situation has returned back to pre-2003 situation”, they observed.
Pointing towards deteriorating law and order situation in State in general and Kashmir valley in particular, speakers observed that curfew and restriction have become a policy of present Government headed by Omar Abdullah. “Instead of adopting human approach to heal wounds of the people, this dispensation has been blatantly using oppressive means to stifle genuine demands of the people”, speakers said and expressed their grave concern over continues curfew in Shopian and other parts of Kashmir valley.
They regretted that instead of working in a democratic manner to address aspirations of the people, the present dispensation headed by National Conference has been trying to become an extension of the security system by stifling voice of people by suppressive means.
“It in unfortunate that during the last five years, Omar Abdullah has spoiled the conducive atmosphere and reversed the whole reconciliatory process initiated by the previous PDP-Congress regime in the State”, they regretted, adding, “good governance is impossible with out sense of security among the people and improvement in the law and order situation”.
Speakers also flayed the State Government for its failure to provide relief to rains and flood affected people of the State. They regretted that rains have rendered hundreds of people homeless but authorities have done nothing to mitigate their woes. They that a large number of people were at the verge of starvation due to failure of the State Government to provide them any relief.
