Oil Tanker falls in gorge, driver charred

RAMBAN, Mar 1: Driver of an Oil Tanker was today burnt alive after his vehicle fell into a gorge and caught fire at Bisleri Nullah in Monkey Morh area of Battery Chasma on Jammu Srinagar National Highway.
Police sources informed that the ill fated vehicle bearing registration number JK02BV-4584 was on way to Srinagar from Jammu and it went out of control of the driver at Monkey Morh and rolled down to land in a 1500 feet deep gorge.
The tanker was carrying diesel and petrol and it caught fire which spread to the bushes all along the steep slope while chambers of the tanker submerged in Bisleri Nullah.
On getting information Police, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services personnel and local volunteers rushed to the spot and launched rescue operation to trace out occupants of the vehicle.
After hectic efforts the rescue teams retrieved the charred body of the driver from the gorge on the embankments of Bisleri Nullah and shifted it to the mortuary of District Hospital Ramban.
Later the Police identified the deceased driver as Pintu Kumar, 30, son of Devi Ditta, resident of Bachyal, Paryal, Jammu.
SHO Police Station Ramban, Inspector Vijay Kotwal said conducting post-mortem and other legal formalities body of the deceased driver was handed over to legal heirs for last rites.
A case in FIR No. 46 of 2024 under Section 279/304-A IPC was registered at Police Station Ramban in this regard and investigation started.
