JAMMU, July 21: A delegation of All J&K Oil Tankers Drivers and Cleaners Union and J&K LPG Tankers and Trucks Drivers Union called on Sunil Sharma, Minister of State for Transport, Revenue, Public Works (Roads & Buildings), Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Agriculture Production and Youth Affairs.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Minister and urged him to change of Halt Point of tankers and trucks carrying petroleum products from Jakheni Park, Udhampur to Kud.
In the memorandum they submitted that tankers and trucks carrying petroleum products are stopped in populated and congested roadside at Jakheni in Udhampur due to one way traffic on alternative days and then tankers and trucks carrying highly inflammable products while moving from Jammu to Kashmir are stopped by authorities at Jakheni, Udhampur citing flow of traffic from Kashmir to Jammu.
They demanded that instead of stopping the vehicles carrying LPG, petrol or diesel at Jakheni these be stopped at Kud.
In the memorandum they also cited the risk involved at the present halt point where God forbids if any untoward incident happens it might result into fatal consequences as these vehicles carry highly explosive material which always pose a risk to lives of drivers, cleaners and also to the neighbouring residents of the area.
They also informed the Minister that as their vehicles are not allow to go through the Chennani-Nashri Tunnel thus it is absolutely of no use or of no logic to stop our tankers and LPG carrying trucks at Jakheni. Moreover there is also no basic facility of drinking water or toilet facility for the drivers and cleaners at Jakheni.
The Minister assured the delegation to resolve the issue within next few days.
Those who were part of the delegation included Devinder Singh, Harasis Singh, Sohan Singh, Gurcharan Singh
Ranjit Singh Raina, president of All Jammu and Kashmir Tankers Driver and Cleaners Union.
