This refers to article “JMC and Corporators , will they deliver this time” ? by Rajan Gandhi (DE 23.12.2018). I would suggest to Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to organise sensitization workshop for all the elected corpoators so that they get well versed with Municipal laws , Smart City Project , Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, Bio Medical Waste Rules , Environmental Protection law and Water Conservation Act and other laws that are related to civic bodies especially JMC. For next two months, Government must hold these workshops for the elected corporators on regular basis. Institute of Management Public Administration and Rural Development (IMPARD), Directorate of Environment and Remote Sensing , State Forest Research Institute and Non Government Organsiations (NGOs) associated with waste management work and Information Education and Communication Programmes (IEC) must be involved by JMC in this regard.
Services of NGOs associated with Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) can also be availed as they have a good expertise on waste management and IEC work from last one year. Unless corporators of JMC or even Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) are well versed with scientific solid waste management, they won’t be able to do justice with people of Jammu or Srinagar as both these cities continues to stink because of improper waste management. I urge upon K K Sharma Advisor to Governor, BVR Subharmanyam Chief Secretary and Mayor JMC to give a serious thought to my suggestions.
