JAMMU, Apr 1: Under the guidance and instructions of the Chief Justice (chief patron, State Judicial Academy) and Committee of Judges, (comprising Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar, Chairman and Justice Hasnain Masoodi, Member) State Judicial Academy today organized oath ceremony and lecture on ‘Professional Ethics and Conduct’ for newly enrolled Advocates of Jammu province at State Judicial Academy complex.
Pawan Dev Kotwal, Director, State Judicial Academy administered oath to the newly enrolled Advocates’ and issued licenses.
During the lecture on ‘the Professional Ethics for Advocates’, Pawan Dev Kotwal, recalled the life histories of some of great jurists who arose from the Bar to highest echelons of law and justice. He emphasized that their lives are beacon lights for any one who chooses a career in the judicial system.
He reminded the crucial role being played by the Advocates as officers of the court and members of the Bar and reminded them their duty to the court, to the client, to the opponent, to colleagues and society. He referred rules governing Advocates and standards of professional conduct and etiquette contained in the Chapter II of Rules of the Bar Council of India whereby an advocate shall at all times, comport himself in a manner befitting his status as an officer of the Court, a privileged member of the community, and a gentleman, bearing in mind that what may be lawful and moral for a person who is not a member of the Bar, or for a member of the Bar in his non-professional capacity may still be improper for an advocate.
A copy of rules governing Advocates was also circulated to the newly enrolled advocates.
Earlier, Yahaya Firdous Ahanger, Sub-Judge attached with State Judicial Academy welcomed young lawyers to the oath ceremony. Vinod Kumar, Sub-Judge, Shri Pankaj Kumar Gupta, Deputy Registrar, Jagdish Raj Thakur, Faculty Member and staff of the State Judicial Academy were present on the occasion.
