SAMBA, Apr 29: Police today lathicharged on the nursing students of a private college, who blocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway in support of their demands.
The vehicular traffic on the busy road came to a standstill in the peak hours this morning when the students of IITT, Bari-Brahmana took to Jammu-Pathankote National Highway near Bari-Brahmana.
Students blocked the road thus bringing the vehicular movement to a stand-still for nearly half an hour. The protesting students were demanding issuance of their roll numbers, so that they can appear in their nursing examinations like other students.
On getting information, police personnel rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the students. The situation turned violent, when police lathicharged the protesting students and also detained some of them.
After the police action, the students dispersed and the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Pathankote highway was restored.
Talking to the Excelsior, one of the student alleged that the college administration is playing hide and seek with their future by not issuing their roll numbers. He alleged that the roll-numbers has been issued to some students but not to all.
“We had gone through three years training course from this institute and the administration is not taking interest for the future of the students”, he alleged.
If the concerned authorities and the college administration will not resolve the issue at the earliest, then we will be left with no other option rather then to go on indefinite strike, he asserted.
When contacted senior police officials, said that the students held protest pertaining to their demands of issuance of the roll numbers. During the protest, two students were detained, but were released later.
