JAMMU, June 22: Picking holes in recent Government declaration granting backward area status to 39 villages, National Secular Forum (NSF) today said that several deserving villages were neglected by the Government.
Talking to media persons, NSF Jammu University unit president Qayoom Malik, said that out of 39 villages declared backward several of them have  road connectivity besides other facilities. “Across the State a large number of villages which have no road connectivity and lack other facilities are still deprived of the benefits”, he said.
Qayoom Malik alleged that pick and choose policy was adopted by Government and  several villages were granted the backward area status purely on recommendation of  coalition candidates.
He appealed the Chief Minister to direct the Backward  Area Commission to do survey of remaining  deserving villages and submit its report shortly for according backward area status to them.
