NSF celebrates 122nd birth anniversary of Maniben Patel

JAMMU, Apr 3: The 122nd birth anniversary of Maniben Patel was celebrated by National Secular Forum (NSF), University Unit here today.
A programme in this connection was organized wherein Dr Vikas Sharma Coordinator Jammu District and Zonal Secretary JKNC was the Chief Guest while, Dr Sukhdev Singh State President NSF presided over the function. Vikshay Vashist, State Secretary NSF was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Vikas Sharma threw light on the life history of Maniben Patel and appreciated the efforts of NSF and appealed to the youth to come forward to eliminate all evils from the society.
He said that Maniben Patel was an Indian independence movement activist and a Member of the Indian parliament. She was the daughter of freedom fighter and post-Independence Indian leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“In 1923-24 the British government levied heavy taxes on the common people and for recovery of the same they started confiscating their cattle, land and property. To protest against this oppression, Maniben motivated women to join a campaign led by Gandhi and Sardar Patel and support the No-Tax Movement,” he said.
Dr Sukhdev Singh State President NSF said that Maniben Patel participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement as well as the Salt Satyagraha and was imprisoned for long periods of time.
Vikshay Vashist, State Secretary NSF also addressed this occasion.
Gourav Partap Singh President University Unit delivered the welcome address and Abhishek Uppal delivered the vote of thanks.
