NSDC, Tata to conduct study in J&K

NEW DELHI, Aug 24:
As situation remained grim in Kashmir valley, NSDC and Tata Trusts today said they will conduct a study to understand aspirations of youth from the State and identify challenges and interventions required to improve job opportunities with corporates.
The study will be undertaken by Dalberg Global Development Advisors and is aimed at creating a better impact by way of employment opportunities, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) said in a statement.
The partnership between Tata Trusts, NSDC and Dalberg will identify the real gaps and give the right direction to bring higher standards and scale to the skilling initiatives for the youth from J&K, the statement added.
NSDA (National Skill Development Agency) and NSDC Chairman S Ramadorai said: “We have seen some encouraging results from the State of J&K along with the required passion and eagerness of the youth to be a part of the large corporates and MSME sector in India.
“This intervention is a natural extension of our desire to enable a two-way connect between the industry and the State’s youth leading to mutually beneficial outcomes while addressing aspirations.”
The study would look at the aspirations of the youth and engage with large corporates to explore possibilities of skilling and hiring them, look at the enabling process for the youth to get ready for the corporate sector careers and finalise job roles in line with the aspirations of the youth.
NSDC is already working with Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with corporates for the Udaan program to provide opportunities to the educated youth of the State in private sector.
Similarly, under Himayat programme, supported by Ministry of Rural Development, NSDC has helped to train and place youth from the State for entry level jobs in hospitality, retail, and other professions over the last few years, the statement said.
“NSDC has evaluated opportunities and is looking at scaling up the programme and revisiting the gaps so that more youth from J&K can get better careers and self-employment opportunities,” it said.
The youth outreach plan, corporate engagement model, skilling value-chain alignment and a rollout plan would all be addressed as a part of this critical intervention. (PTI)
