JAMMU, Aug 29: Communal harmony yatra of National Panthers Party (NPP), spreading message of peace and brotherhood left for Kishtwar which remained under continuous curfew after witnessing communal violence recently.
Chief Patron of the Party, Prof Bhim Singh inaugurated this Bhaichara Yatra at Press Club here this morning. All the three party MLAs- Harshdev Singh (chairman), Balwant Singh Makotia (president) and Yash Pal Kundal general secretary were also present besides other party leaders and workers. Then the party activists and leaders left for Doda and Kishtwar in buses and other vehicles.
While addressing the gathering on the occasion, Prof Singh who is former Legislator and also member National Integration Council said that it was important to uphold the centuries old traditions of communal harmony. He said, “India is great nation which has been showing the light of love, peace, tolerance and human dignity to the whole world since times immemorial. Jammu and Kashmir is the crest of the nation and we are proud of being citizens of India. All the religions in the world, all the sages and saints have been teaching to uphold human dignity and mutual respect for all the fellow human beings.’’
Prof Singh said the Panthers Party has undertaken this communal harmony yatra from Jammu to Kishtwar which has been the mission and the message of the party that justice and equity are the essential elements for the dignified living in the country like India which is the largest democracy in the world. He said Kishtwar incident was unfortunate and sad as it has caused human disturbances. “We are equally proud of the people of Kishtwar for their commitment to the cause of secularism. We are marching to Kishtwar for strengthening communal harmony and carry the message of brotherhood. Harshdev Singh and Mr Mankotia also addressed the gathering.
Yatra was received at Tikri, Ghari, Rehmbal, Udhampur, Chenani, Kud and Batote. In Udhampur, the yatra was taken out in the main bazaars of the town. The leaders addressed the large gathering there. Similarly, at Ramban, in the afternoon, the yatra was accorded warm reception and party leaders addressed the gathering there. Yatra which left in nearly 25 vehicles will have night stay at Batote. Tomorrow, after addressing gatherings at Doda at 10 am, at Bhaderwah 12 noon and at Thathri 2.30 pm, the communal harmony yatra will reach Kishtwar at around 4 pm. All the party leaders will address a large gathering and take out peace yatra in the entire Kishtwar town.
