JAMMU, Apr 19:  Peeved over the assault and humiliation of valiant soldiers by the stone pelters and other anti-nationals in Kashmir followed by the State Government slapping FIRs on them, chairman of NPP and former minister Harsh Dev Singh condemned the bizarre situation which had led to disparagement of the security personnel and brought disgrace to the entire nation.
He demanded withdrawal of all FIRs against the Army officers and asked the BJP-PDP combine to seek unconditional apology from the Defence personnel for its abominable behaviour.
Addressing press conference here today, Harsh Dev divulged that the incumbent Government had been resorting to appeasement policy towards the frenzied secessionists, anti- nationals and stone pelters which had emboldened them enough to assault and manhandle the CRPF personnel on duty. He lamented that never before in the history of the State had the brave Indian soldiers been so humiliated as to be slapped, heckled, stoned, jeered, manhandled and humiliated.
NPP leader said that Indian soldier had always volunteered himself to embraced death smilingly on the borders while fighting enemy but assault on his self respect by the berserk and maniacal felons was intolerable and disheartening. He said that sovereignty and integrity of nation had always been a prime motto of an Indian soldier but falling prey to the assaults of anti-national elements in full public view had extremely lowered the morale of the security forces. He said that the most shameful and unprecedented incident had disgraced the 130 crore Indians to bow their heads with shame.
He wondered over the criminal silence of the Saffron party while the State police slapped FIRs under sections 342/149/506 and 367 of the RPC on the Army’s 53 RR unit for countering the stone pelters during the by polls in Srinagar on April 9.
“The Army devised strategy to successfully rescue the security personnel and civil officials trapped by a frenzied mob of 500 protestors at a polling booth but the FIRs registered against the Army officers by the State police had only proved BJP’s impuissance and its treacherous character”, Harsh regretted.
