JAMMU, Oct 17: While criticizing the Government for the alleged harassment to the youth in the sphere of employment, Panthers Party activists led by Harshdev Singh, chairman NPP and Balwant Singh Mankotia State president along with other leaders staged a massive protest demonstration and dharna at Exhibition Ground here today.
Lambasting the State Government’s attitude towards the SPOs’ working in Police Department, Harshdev Singh revealed that raising of Special Police Officers in J&K security set up was an important decision especially to control militancy. As many as 24870 SPOs across the State have been drawing a meager salary of Rs 3000 per month, despite announcement made by the Ministry of Home Affairs, regarding the enhancement of their salaries to Rs 6000 per month under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE).
He disclosed that out of these SPOs, 14845 are working in Kashmir division, 8338 in Jammu region and the rest 1687 SPOs are working in different departments. Regretting the pathetic and discriminatory anomaly of the SPO’s working in Jammu region, he pointed out that a total of 4603 SPOs are attached with respective VDCs (Village Defence Committees) on wages sharing basis whereas, the SPOs in Kashmir region do not share their wages with any VDC as there are no such committees over there.
Expressing shock over the recent death of a young NYC (National Youth Corps) volunteer from Kishtwar, Late Raj Kumar who was a part of the month long ongoing hunger strike in Srinagar, Balwant Singh Mankotia blamed the State Government for remaining a mute spectator over the plight of NYC volunteers. He said nearly 8000 youth in J&K were engaged as volunteers by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, GoI in association with the State Government in various departments in 2010, on an honorarium of Rs 2500 per month. The previous Govt had accorded sanction to their regular engagement in various Govt schools under the Education department vide order no: 737-Edu-2014 dated 22/10/2014 but the present Govt paid no heed to implement the aforesaid order, he said.
Yashpal Kundal demanded that Government must do justice with the ReT teachers.
