JAMMU, Aug 25: Launching a scathing attack on the State Government for its gross failure in providing relief to the people of Jammu region from the ongoing power crisis, Panthers Party activists spearheaded by Harshdev Singh, chairman JKNPP, Balwant Singh Mankotia, State president JKNPP and Yashpal Kundal, State president, Young Panthers, today staged a protest here in front of Press Club.
The angry protesters raised slogans against PDP-BJP coalition Government in the State and torched an effigy of the BJP.
Harshdev Singh while addressing the media regretted that the acute power crisis has not only made the life of a common man miserable in the towns and cities but also remote areas. He warned the Power Development Department (PDD) to face the music of an enraged public in case the regular and un-interrupted power supply was not restored at the earliest.
Lambasting the Government for its highly biased approach, he pointed out that the power consumption between Jammu and Kashmir regions is in the proportion of 40:60 respectively but when it comes to revenue realization, Jammu shares more than 66% of power tariff while paltry 34% come from Kashmir province.
While seeking the accountability of the Government, Balwant Singh Mankotia questioned the Power Minister regarding the fate of 150 MMT dedicated coal mine which was promised to be allotted to J&K in the “Agenda of Alliance” for establishing of a thermal plant. He further sought a response from the State and the Central Government in respect of the assurance given by Union Power Minister for provision of an additional 440 KV Transmission Line from Jalandhar to Jammu as an alternate Northern Grid connectivity.
Yashpal Kundal warned the Government to check the power fluctuations which has damaged several electronic equipments besides several household appliances of the people.
