Lambasting the Government for snapping the mobile internet services in Jammu region for nearly 103 days, Harshdev Singh dubbed the administration’s decision to impose ban on the internet services as arbitrary and obnoxious move which has pushed people to stone age. “Why the policy of suppression has been enforced on the people of Jammu Pradesh? Isn’t it unwarranted and undemocratic? Why should our people suffer for the sins committed in Kashmir? He said that the aforesaid ban only corroborated the fact that the present Government is incapable of curbing the anti-national elements, malefactors and the offenders of the law in J&K. Instead of tracking and apprehending the criminals, the BJP at the Centre ordered the complete shut- down of the internet services,” regretted Harshdev.
While expressing his indignation over the State Government’s totalitarian moves, he said that the communication gag had divested the people of their fundamental right of speech and expression guaranteed in the Constitution of India. “Prolonged internet blockade of this kind has never happened before. BJP after assuming power has been often resorting to such authoritarian moves only to demonstrate its power. Such tactics would only aggravate public outrage against the government’s highhandedness. Stalling mobile internet services had adversely impacted the normal life as broadband facility was not available everywhere. Social and economic life had also been thrown out of gear. The Government should tighten its security network rather than harassing the people for absurd, unjustifiable reasons”, Harshdev asserted.
While questioning the criminal silence of the Jammu based BJP leaders on the sensitive issue, he demanded immediate lifting of ban over mobile internet services in Jammu region.
Rajesh Padgotra, Gagan Pratap Singh and Shanker Singh Chib also accompanied.
