JAMMU, Dec 29: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party President Balwant Singh Mankotia has said that party accepts the verdict of the people in the recent Assembly elections which has thrown up a hung Assembly.
In a statement issued here, Mankotia said that it is time for the party leadership to introspect on the causes of the defeat at the hustings and devise strategies to win the peoples confidence by reaching out to the common masses.
He said that these elections were the most keenly fought with largest ever turnout. The massive turnout of the people demonstrated that they have complete faith in the democratic process and except few complaints of use of money, muscle power and polarization of the voters in the name of region and religion, he added.
Mankotia said that party instead of going to the courts would reach out to the common masses and redouble its efforts to mitigate their sufferings and would aggressively fight for achievement of statehood for Jammu Pradesh.
He said that as in most of the European countries, the electronic voting machines (EVMs) have been discontinued, same should be adopted in India also. He said that besides, Prime Minister and Central Ministers should be debarred from campaigning in the Assembly elections as they represent the country and the whole population and not just a particular party.
Mankotia said that Prime Minister campaigning for a candidate obviously tilts the balance in favour of his party candidate as whole administrative  machinery is galvanized to facilitate PM/Central Ministers’ visit in the area.
He appealed the Election Commission of India to create a consensus on debarring PM and Central Ministers to campaign in Assembly elections.
