Notorious vehicle lifter arrested, 8 stolen Scooties recovered

KATRA, July 7: Katra Police has arrested a notorious vehicle lifter and recovered eight Scooties, which were stolen and sold by him.
The arrested accused, identified as Sushil Gupta son of Kusturi Lal of Shiwalik Puram, Janipur Colony Jammu is a notorious vehicle lifter and was arrested earlier also when 30 stolen two-wheelers were recovered from him. Click here to watch video
This time, he was zeroed in by Katra Police after Scooty of Rishav Thapa son of Parshottam Thapa of Bhim Nagar, B C Road Jammu was stolen on July 5 when he had come to Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan for paying obeisance. He had parked his Scooty, bearing registration number JK02BQ-6512 at Fountain Chowk Katra.
On receiving a formal complaint in this regard, SP Katra Amit Bhasin activated sources to trace out the stolen two wheeler. Katra Police team zeroed in a number of suspects, including Sushil Gupta and started continuous rounds of sustained questioning them.
Suspect Sushil Gupta could not justify movements in the area with his frivolous replies and ultimately confessed commission of crime. On his disclosure, Police recovered the stolen Scooty from Katra town.
During further investigation, the accused disclosed about seven other vehicles stolen by him following which Katra Police raided different locations in and around Katra area. Series of raids continued for two days in which seven more Scooties, bearing registration numbers JK02BM-2708, JK02BX-0813, JK02BC-8558, JK02BE-4775, JK02BB-2914, JK02BM-6811 and JK02BX-6604 were recovered from different locations.
These vehicles, worth more than Rs seven lakh, were stolen by accused habitual criminal Sushil Gupta from different areas of district Jammu and he used to sell these vehicles to common people by forging documents.
Another case FIR number 37/2020 U/S 379 IPC stands registered against the accused in Police Station Peer Mitha Jammu in which he was arrested and police team had recovered 35 Scooties stolen and sold by him in different areas of district Jammu.
