UDHAMPUR, Feb 24: Police arrested a notorious drug peddler near Sai Baba Temple here today and seized heroin like substance from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Rafaqat Ali, son of Mohammed Shafi, a resident of Devika near Sai Baba Temple, Udhampur. According to Police, Rafaqat Ali is a habitual offender with multiple previous cases registered against him. He had also been detained under PSA (Public Safety Act) in 2018-2019 and later under PIT NDPS in 2023.
A police team from Udhampur Police Station, while performing patrolling and checking duty near Devika area, apprehended the accused who attempted to flee from the spot on seeing the police team.
Upon frisking, the Police recovered 11.38 grams of heroin-like contraband from his possession, following which he was arrested on the spot.
In this connection, an FIR No. 60/2025 has been registered under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Udhampur. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
