JAMMU, June 19: Baldev Singh Billawaria, Chairman Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today said that JMC and other allied departments have done a commendable job to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. But the incident that took place yesterday with the death of COVID patient and his relatives has shocked everyone.
Billawaria while talking to reporters here, said that one COVID-19 patient from Gangyal area of Jammu city died yesterday and when the relatives went for the cremation of the dead body, they were not allowed to cremate and they went to the bank of river Tawi near Sidhra for the cremation.
During this, two of the relatives who were wearing the PPE kits during the whole time fell unconscious and ultimately died due to excessive heat and suffocation. Billawaria said that Government should notify the cremation grounds to be reserved for the cremation of COVID-19 patients so that such type of incidents will not occur in future. He also urged the Government to initiate an enquiry into the matter to ascertain the negligence on part of the administration regarding the death of two young individuals.
