Srinagar, May 3: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today appealed youth of Kashmir to help in progress and development of the State to save the place from destruction.
Speaking to reporters after paying condolences to the families of the five policemen who were killed in an attack by militants on Monday, Mehbooba said: “I think we all need to think and particularly the youth – who are our own children – I appeal them that this Jammu and Kashmir is yours and this land is yours. Work for its betterment and happiness and cooperate with us to stop this destruction.”
“Seven poor men who had left their homes to earn their livelihood and protect their money of people deposited in the banks. But to kill them with such injustice is the biggest misfortune for this nation,” the Chief Minister said.
Mehbooba urged for ending the destruction, loot and murder in Kashmir. “I think there cannot be anything more unfortunate other than this. I think we need to think what are we doing by this type of ransacking, dacoity and murders and what are we doing for our nation this time? What are we achieving from this destruction, looting and murders? Students are not being allowed to go to schools,” she said.
“Banks where poor people deposit their money are being looted,” she said.
The Chief Minister expressed her heartfelt sympathies with the families of the slain personnel of JK Bank and Police. She said they laid their lives while preserving public money and their sacrifices won’t be allowed to go waste. She said the victim families would be duly looked after and every help and assistance would be provided to them by the Government.
Sharing the pain and grief of the bereaved families, the Chief Minister said these personnel were on the duty to protect and disburse public money and their killing reflects the dangerous criminalisation turn the society is taking. She appealed people, particularly civil society and youth, to rise against this dangerous trend of looting of public money by spilling innocent blood, thereby giving Kashmir a terribly bad name in the civilized world.
Mehbooba today visited the families of police personnel and JK Bank officials. She visited Nehama village in Kulgam district to personally convey her sympathies to the families of JK Bank official Muzaffar Ahmad and constable Farooq Ahmad.
She later visited Ujroo to condole with the families of constable Muzaffar Ahmad and JK Bank official Javed Ahmad at Yarkipora and ASI Bashir Ahmad at Bonigam.
Later, Mehbooba visited the family of constable Ishfaq Ahmad at Batapora, Zakoora in Srinagar who was also killed in the said incident and condoled with his family, including aged parents and young siblings.
