SRINAGAR: A non-local labourer was killed while several others were missing after a snow avalanche hit central Kashmir district of Ganderbal on Friday.
Official sources said that a snow avalanche hit an area where work was underway on an under construction power grid at Royal Gund in Ganderbal. ”Several labourers, who were working in the area, were buried under several feet of snow,” they said.
They said a search and rescue operation was immediately launched. ”Two persons were recovered under several feet of snow,” they said, adding the injured were immediately taken to a hospital where one of them succumbed.
An operation is underway to recover other trapped labourers. (agencies)
