Jammu, Feb 8: Residents of Waliabad locality of Sidhra are agitated over the attitude of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department which failed to provide water supply to them for the past fortnight.
The department had sanctioned new supply pipes to ensure drinking water to the residents living in the Lane Number one, Waliabad, early last year but despite lapse of over 10 months no action has been leaving the inhabitants fuming.
“We used to get the irregular supply of drinking water for nearly an hour after several days through the old pipes. Though inadequate, it had also stopped for the past two weeks, forcing us to buy the water from the private water tanker operators on exorbitant rates to meet our requirements,” one of the local residents said.
He said the tanker operators used to charge Rs 500 for 4000 litres but they have increased the rates by Rs 100 for the past couple of months to exploit the situation as it seems nobody is there to take note of their hegemony.
