No-trust vote against Dy Mayor dismissed

Srinagar, Aug 26: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today declared the no-confidence motion moved against Deputy Mayor Pervaiz Qadri as null and void.
As per details, 36 out of 70 Councillors had to be present to start the business of the general session to weigh the motion that was moved. However, there were signatures of only 26 Councillors.
It is to be mentioned here, that on July 15 at least 38 Councillors had moved a no-confidence motion against Deputy Mayor, Parvez Ahmed Qadri who is also the acting Mayor.

Post motion, all the Councillors were informed to attend the session to exercise their voting rights which was scheduled to be held today.
However, only 26 members were present today whereas it was mandatory that more than half of the Councillors were supposed to be present which is 36 members out of 70 Councillors’ to take up the business of the general session.
“Therefore with the presence of 26 members, the session could not be taken up,” Commissioner SMC, Gazanfar Ali told reporters.
He said that what was required for the motion to stand did not fulfill. They asked for some time after the session was started, “we did as requested, but they did not come up to the mark.”
“26 signed, 36 had to sign. 33 were present there, but only 26 signed and we had to declare the motion as null and void,” he said.
