No more special recruitment drive in police department in J&K

SRINAGAR: There will be no Special Recruitment Drive (SRD) in Jammu and Kashmir police department and instead Transparent Recruitment Preocess (TRP) has been introduced now.
There is no proposal to undertake SRD in any part of the state in the police department, Minister incharge Home and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said in a written reply in the Legislative Assembly here today. She said SRDs were conducted in the police department at constabulary level after Cabinet decision in December 2009 to give representation to the eligible candidates in the areas which are underrepresented in the police department.
However, the police department has now switched over to TRP at constabulary level to ensure recruitment in the police department in a free, fair and transparent manner without any human interface.
About the conversion and observation of Special Police Officers (SPOs) as constables or followers in the police department, the reply said a policy was formed in 2009 by the state government.
Under the policy it was decided that 15 per cent of the available vacancies as constables or followers would be for SPOS with minimum of three years of engagement, excellence in counter insurgency operations, excellence in spots and should have first three positions in individual or team events at the state or national level or possession of ITI Diploma. The reply said under this policy 3331 SPOs have been converted as constable and followers till date.
However, under the state government order issued in April this year, a SPO with less than one year service will get Rs 5000, completion of one year Rs 5500 and after completion of three years Rs 6000 per month honorarium, the reply said. (AGENCIES)
