DODA, Aug 9: The power supply in Doda and Kishtwar districts remained suspended today for the second consecutive day following damage to a transmission tower in Udhampur, officials said.
The tower maintained by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) at Thard village had tilted yesterday afternoon, they said.
The Superintending Engineer, PDD Batote Rajan Gupta said all efforts are being made to restore the power supply in the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar.
He said that the tower was damaged due to work on National Highway widening and heavy rains. He said the NHPC men and machinery were on the job to restore the tower and most probably by late tonight, the power supply to the Doda -Kishtwar belt will be restored.
He said tower tilted after the land erosion and “we are hopeful by late tonight power will be restored to this entire belt.”
“Though the NHPC had set a deadline of 6.30 pm for restoration of the service, but due to some technical problem the power supply could not be restored,” the Power Development Department (PDD) official said.
“The job is almost done and now minor technical issue need to be resolved”, he said, adding that the tower apparently tilted due to heavy rains that triggered a number of landslides in the area.
One of the landslides also uprooted the Kishanpur-Pampore transmission tower on July 31, the restoration of which would cost a around Rs 50 lakh, said a PDD official.
