SRINAGAR, Nov 5: As the Estates Department is facing crisis of accommodation, this year they have evicted scores of people including several politicians from properties after State Government cancelled their allotments.
Early this month on Saturday, Estates Department evicted family of former Minister in PDP Government, Abdul Aziz Zargar after Government cancelled the deceased Minister’s accommodation (under order no. 154 of EST of 2013 dated 03/07/2013).
According to Government order (No. 169-GAD of 2004 dated 10/02/2004) a Government employee can reside in a Government accommodation for one month after his retirement and a deceased allotte family for two months after his/her death.
After the cancellation of the Zagar’s accommodation, Zagar’s son, Manzoor Ahmad Zargar, was served notice by the Estates Department (under order DDES/TQRT-20/Notice-2013) and this was followed by Eviction order (No. DDES/Eviction/TQRT-20/TB/2013 dated 19/10/2013).
It may be mentioned here that Zagar died early this year and family was residing in the same Government accommodation for past six months.
The Estates Department evicted former president of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and former MP, Ghulam Rasool Kar, from Tulsibagh, Srinagar Government accommodation.
Kar was residing in T-18, Tulsi Bagh since early 1990s and was evicted three months ago. He, however, was accommodated in another government property.
This was followed by the eviction of former Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council and NC leader, Mohammad Yusuf Teng, from Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar. He was residing in T-3 Tulsi Bagh and was evicted after Government cancelled his T-3 accommodation.
Another NC leader and former MLC Altaf Ahmad Kaloo who was residing in J-36, Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar was also evicted this year after his term as MLC expired.
A top Estates Official said that the Government cancels accommodation of an allotee after proper review. He said that the Estates Department is facing crisis of accommodation and this year the department hired 122 hotels, 80 Private House to accommodate the Move Employees and various Government officials, bureaucrats and politicians.
The official ruled out any political vendetta in cancellation of allotments. He said that this year the Government cancelled accommodation of two NC leaders, one Congress leader and one PDP leader. He said that eviction is a routine process and every year accommodation of the allotees is being cancelled so as to accommodate new allotees.
The PDP spokesman had described the eviction of the family of late Zagar as political vendetta.
