No new positive case in Ladakh: Samphel

LEH, Mar 29: Commissioner and Secretary (Health) Rigzin Samphel today said that there is no new positive case of COVID-19 since past ten days and the previous positive 13 cases has come down to 10 in UT Ladakh.
Under the GoI directions, Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable (MKC) Hospital in Leh and GNM School in Kargil has been recognized for dedicated COVID-19 hospital in UT Ladakh. Equipments such as 100 ventilators- 50 each for Leh and Kargil districts is expected to arrive soon, he added.
With the increase in number of positive cases in Srinagar, UT Administration of Ladakh makes an appeal to those who had travelled from Srinagar to Ladakh on the 18th and 19th of March, for keeping themselves under home quarantine by staying away from everyone including their family for 14 days, stated Samphel.
Taking cognizance of the situation of migrant labourers stranded in Ladakh due to sudden lockdown in the country in the aftermath of outbreak of COVID-19, the district administrations of both Leh and Kargil identified such labourers and yesterday 5000 labourers in Tehsil Leh of the district and 350 in Kargil district were given free ration. A mechanism has been formulated for continuous supply of free ration to such labourers starting Saturday during the period of lock-down.
Responding to a query concerning pilgrims and students studying out of Ladakh, Commissioner Secretary, Samphel stated that the students’ welfare is among the top priorities of the UT Administration. They can always contact the Resident Commissioner. Ladakh Sumera Shafi in New Delhi who is appointed as the Nodal Officer, he added.
At this moment, Dr. Nordan Odzer is working in Nubra Valley as a volunteer on the appeal of the UT Administration, and hopefully other retired medical doctors of the districts would also consider our appeal, said Samphel while answering to a query during the press conference.
