No large gatherings to ward off “3rd wave”

If we have to fend – off the oft expected “a sure third wave” of corona virus and in its feared armed with a strong variant , we must never let off our guard to fight it at the preventive stage itself. In other words, more and close gatherings are the main reasons of spread of the dreaded virus which has rattled the entire globe with deaths of people and destruction of economies. Although more or less, the overall position across the country is far more satisfactory in containment of the spread barring two or three states which allowed relaxation in precautionary norms for a couple of days only to find surge in infections, yet we have to exercise utmost caution. With a view that the virus does not spread again albeit the “Third Wave” , it is to be ensured that there were no gatherings anywhere at all not to speak of ”large” gatherings and to meticulously comply with the SOPs and other safety measures so as to thwart any possibility of resurgence of the pandemic.
We note with satisfaction that the Central Government in this connection has asked all the States and Union Territories to ensure that there were no large gatherings anywhere and to take pro-active measures to check the spread of the virus . Since a train of approaching festivals was expected to draw gatherings for purposes of celebrations, the respective Governments must take preventive measures and restrict gatherings to the barest possible minimum. We have to recall the havoc wrought by the “second wave” across the country and draw lessons from that in order to discourage very firmly the ways of ”conventional” spread of the virus. It is in the fitness of things that the Government has extended the ongoing COVID -19 guidelines for one more month till September 30 so that the position of “overall stability ” at the national level of the pandemic situation was not disturbed. It is to appreciated to be realised seriously as well that a few restrictions and complying with COVID- 19 preventive measures related discipline in adhering to precautionary guidelines were far less troublesome but quite effective in providing insulating cover than the obverse thereof which was loaded with life threatening grave consequences.
We have also to note that unfortunately a trend towards increase in positivity rate and surge in infections in some districts of the country has been observed which was causing concern where taking more pro-active containment measures was the only solution with no alternatives. Transmissions have got to be stopped right at the beginning by employing all possible measures howsoever looking somewhat uncomfortable. Experts and even common citizenry can feel the pulse of warning signals and what they were conveying about the potential surges which each one of us must take seriously without adopting a complacent approach under the misnomer and an illusion of “where is COVID “. Now, nearly two full years have fairly shown us “where it can be” and how it can reach everywhere with our “co-operation” only.
There could be restrictions at District or even Tehsil levels or in other words, a localised approach in this respect depending upon the peculiar circumstances and suiting the requirements as to how both the surge and the spread could vastly be contained. In this connection, various advisories issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare from time to time especially April 25 and June 28 are important to be noted. Again, let us all celebrate festivals with all religious and cultural fervour but within safe confines largely of our homes as when only we live , can we see many festivals and intense celebrations , hence the time tested dictum-“Savdhani hatti aur durghatna ghatti” must be the guiding factor.
