NEW DELHI, May 3: Union Minister of State in PMO with independent Charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh today said that there was no issue such as Kashmir issue and the only issue is that how to retrieve the Pakistan occupied J&K and make it part of Indian Union.
Dr Jitendra Singh said this while inaugurating the three day long seminar on Kalhan Pandit’s Raj Tarangni an ancient book on Kashmir’s history here, today.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that the history has been misinterpreted by the vested interests to suit their political convenience. He said Maharaja Hari Singh the last Dogra ruler of the State has been wrongly accused of delaying accession of J&K with India while Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah the former Chief Minister of the State supported it as he knew that he will not be able to become Prime Minster of Kashmir if it becomes part of Pakistan.
The Union Minister said that those who oppose that retrieving of POJK and making it a part of Indian Union should understand and accept that the unanimous resolution in this regard was moved by Congress Government in 1994 led by P V Narsimha Rao.
Terming Raj Tarangni a role model, Dr Jitendra Singh said for knowing the history of J&K one has to go through the Raj Tarangni .
The three day long seminar will conclude on May 5. The prominent scholars and historians from all over the country are taking part in the seminar. The seminar has been jointly organized by Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi and Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi.
Besides, Dr Jitendra Singh Prof Arvind P Jamkhedkar , Chairman ICHR and Prof Rajnesh Kumar Shukla , Member Secretary ICHR, Dr Sachchidanand Joshi and president Jammu Kashmir Study Centre Padamshri Jawahar Lal Koul were present on inaugural function.
Dr Rajnesh Shukla said the Raj Tarangni is the first book on history. He said this book has totally rejected the myth created that India was never united in past.
Padamshri Jawahar Lal Koul said that the historians deliberately tried to ignore the period before 14th century. But Raj Tarangni is like a rock representing the historical facts before the 14th Centaury. Prof Arvind Jamkhedkar stressed on research on that portion of Raj Tarangni which has not been touched so far.
On the occasion a book on Acharya Abhinav Gupt a great Shivacharya of Kashmir was also released. The stage was conducted by Dr Rajesh Kumar while vote of thanks was proposed by Kartikant Sharma.
