No flight operations at Sgr Airport for 5th day

Srinagar, Dec 11: Even as weather improved and there was relief from foggy weather conditions today with light snowfall in the hills of Kashmir, no flights operated from Srinagar Airport for 5th consecutive day. And the snowfall in hills forced authorities to close Srinagar-Leh and Mughal roads for traffic.
People of Kashmir had a slight relief from intense cold weather conditions with light snowfall in the hills of Kashmir. There was improvement in foggy conditions as well but the flight operations at Srinagar Airport continued to be suspended for fifth consecutive day.
This is for six consecutive day that the flight operations were affected at Srinagar Airport. Since Saturday not a single flight landed or took off from Srinagar Airport and 11 flights were cancelled on Friday due to fog and poor visibility at Srinagar Airport. Since Friday, 151 fights were cancelled and thousands of passengers were stranded at various places.
And today there was light snowfall in the hills of Kashmir leading to closure of Srinagar-Leh National Highway and Mughal road for traffic. There were around seven inches of snowfall in Zojila on Srinagar-Leh National Highway and around six inches in Pir Ki Gali on Mughal road. The snow led to slippery road conditions forcing authorities to close these roads for traffic.
Srinagar-Leh National Highway had opened for traffic on 8th of December after remaining closed for 16 days and same was the case with Mughal road.
The Meterological Department had forecast light snowfall in the hills of Kashmir for today and heavy to moderate snowfall for Thursday and Friday. It has also forecast moderate to heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday for Jammu region.
In the meantime, cold weather conditions continued in Kashmir today with minimum temperatures staying subzero but there was slight improvement in day temperature.
Srinagar recorded maximum of 6.6 degree Celsius and minimum of minus 1.4 degree Celsius which was one degree more from yesterday. Gulmarg, the world famous ski resort, recorded minimum of minus 3.6 degree Celsius. Pahalgam recorded maximum of 7.6 degree Celsius and minimum of minus 2.3 degree Celsius. Qazigund had maximum of 2.2 degree Celsius and minimum of minus 1.6 degree Celsius. Kokernag recorded maximum of 4.8 degree Celsius and minimum of minus 2.2 degree Celsius. Kupwara had a maximum of 8.1 degree Celsius and minimum of minus zero degree Celsius temperature.
Jammu recorded maximum of 19.1 degree Celsius and minimum of 9.5 degree Celsius, Banihal recorded maximum of 15.6 degree Celsius and minimum of 3.4 degree Celsius, Batote recorded maximum of 14.6 degree Celsius and minimum of 4.5 degree Celsius and Katra recorded maximum of 17.1 degree Celsius and minimum of 8.7 degree Celsius.
Leh recorded maximum of Zero degree Celsius and minimum of minus 11.5 degree Celsius. Drass recorded maximum of minus 5.1 degree Celsius and minimum of minus 15.3 degree.
