New JKPCC chief accorded rousing reception

JAMMU, Aug 30: Senior AICC leader and Incharge J&K affairs of the party Rajni Patil (MP) today said that no defection can weaken the party and Congress will emerge as more stronger in coming days in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the gathering at party headquarters here today, Patil said that Congress party is steadfast on its principles, policies and programmes and shall continue to fight communal, divisive and wrong policies of Modi Government. She appreciated the Congress workers and leaders who were on the streets “for the last 80 years against the anti- people policies of Modi Government” during all these years.
Patil said that the loyal party workers shall keep the flag of the party high in every situation. She said that no defection shall weaken the party and it will emerge more stronger. She added that party has given everything to some top leaders in an oblique reference to Ghulam Nabi Azad and said that party made him MP, Minister, LOP and several top positions in the party. She asked the party leaders and workers to work unitedly to strengthen the party under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
In his address, newly appointed PCC president Vikar Rasool Wani thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Rajni Patil for giving him chance to serve the party at this crucial time and said that a new breed of leadership shall emerge in J&K as some old guards are changing loyalty vacating space for new leadership to come up. He indirectly referred to Ghulam Nabi Azad and said that he was given everything in the party during last 45 years but he has left the party at crucial time. He thanked the party leaders and workers for giving him rousing reception in Jammu today.
Raman Bhalla, who was re-inducted as working president, expressed gratitude to party high command and thanked the workers who gave him reception here today. He said that those who are sitting in cosier room for the last eight years when the Congress leaders and workers, were fighting on streets against the Modi Government’s policies, leaving the party, while those on streets are still with Congress and present here. He said Congress is not dependent on leaders but on grassroot workers of the party. He hit out at Azad for leaving the party at this stage and praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has demolished Jammu and Kashmir State and taken away people’s rights.
Earlier, Patil and newly appointed president of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee, Vikar Rasool Wani were accorded rousing reception on their arrival at the Jammu Airport by the large number of Congress leaders and workers assembled there and en-route Congress office at Shaheedi Chowk.
They were taken in open vehicle profusely garlanded to the PCC headquarters followed by a long cavalcade of vehicles. Leaders of the Congress party and workers welcomed them at the party office, raising slogans of “Indian National Congress” ‘Zindabad’, Sonia Gandhi Zindabad, Rahul Gandhi Zindabad.
Former Minister and general secretary Yogesh Sawhney coordinated the reception, Neeraj Kundan National president NSUI and number of senior leaders were present in office and welcomed the newly appointed PCC president along with working president to resume office.
Senior leaders of the party including functionaries of PCC, frontal organizations PYC, Mahila Congress, Seva Dal & INTUC, DCC presidents, ex-Ministers, legislators and prominent activists and hundreds of workers greeted Vikar Rasool Wani, who arrived here for the first time, after being appointed as the PCC chief.
