No confidence motion against Budgam DDC Chairman

SRINAGAR, July 16: At least 10 members of the District Development Council (DDC), Budgam including the Vice-Chairman have decided to move a No-Confidence Motion against the DDC Chairman for failing to deliver on the ground.
In this regard, earlier a resolution was passed by 10 out of 14 DDC members against the Chairman, which stated the important matters concerning the functioning of the District Development Council were discussed and also a no-confidence motion against the incumbent chairperson was moved.
The members, as per the resolution stated that there is already a dispute with respect to the election of the Chairperson of the Council, which has been put to challenge before a competent forum.
“However, the members felt it necessary that the Chairman has failed to deliver any kind of developmental work on the ground and has failed to deliver the things,” the resolution read.
The resolution further stated that the members unanimously acknowledged that the DDC Chairperson from the date of assuming the charge of the office has not held any program for the development within the district, and has failed in maintaining social connections with people and address their day-to-day problems.
“The members of the District Development Council have resolved to move a no-confidence motion against the said DDC Chairperson in the larger interests of the public of District Budgam,” read the resolution signed by 10 members
Keeping in view the above reasons, as per resolution, all the elected members present today have signed this resolution without any force, coercion or undue influence for removing the chairman.
In this regard, today, Vice-Chairperson, DDC Budgam Chowdhary Nazir Ahmad has submitted a notice of intention to move No Confidence Motion against the Chairman DDC, Budgam to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam who is also the District Election Officer.
Chowdhary Nazir Ahmad told Excelsior that there was already a dispute with his election as the Chairman and that there has not been a single meeting carried out to take up the developmental needs of the district. “He is not elected, he is selected and we are answerable to people, while he isn’t,” he said.
The Vice-Chairperson has stated that he is moving the notice of intention for moving No-Confidence Motion against the Chairman of DDC Budgam for the reasons that the majority of the members of DDC, Budgam have already passed a resolution in this regard.
“It is humbly requested to arrange a special meeting of members of District Development Council, Budgam for the formal floor test with respect to the No-Confidence Motion against the Chairman, DDC, Budgam,” the letter read.
