Sir,
After the Maggi episode , ensuring unadulterated eating items to be available to public for consumption becomes the duty of the Government. After a small trailer of inspections carried out against adulterated milk a few months back, the state apparatus and the inspection machinery appear to have gone into deep slumber. In fact the previous anti – adulteration drive resulted only in price increase of the milk , curd, cheese and other dairy products and no relief from mass adulteration. In the morning, vans loaded with such milk are hurriedly unloaded at retail shops and within one or two hours, say by 8 am, every thing of the sort is sold off. Instead of passing through main roads, many such vans use lanes and interior connecting roads to evade any possible inspection squad which otherwise is no where to be found . They make their appearance very rarely on Deewali or one or two festivals. Samples taken are kept secret about the results , none from those indulging in adulteration stands convicted or licence of the shop cancelled. Same is true of other items of fruits and vegetables.
If fodder or dairy related other issues are felt by the milk vendors and dairy owners , the same could be addressed by the government but let the health of the citizens, especially the children not grossly be compromised.
Yours etc…..
Amit Kumar, Udhampur
