JAMMU Sept 8: Only Ganderbal and Udhampur shall remain 4G districts in the Union Territory as the Government of Jammu and Kashmir today ordered that internet speed shall continue to be restricted to 2G only in rest of the districts.
“It is absolutely necessary so to do in the interest of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the State and for maintaining public order ,” said the order issued today by Principal Secretary , Home Department, according to which, the earlier directions on internet shall continue to remain in force till September 30, 2020, unless modified earlier.
As per the earlier directions, dated 16-08-2020, the high speed mobile data services in the districts of Ganderbal and Udhampur was restored on trial basis while in rest of the districts, the internet speed shall continue to be restricted to 2G only. While the post paid SIM card holders shall continue to be provided access to the internet, these services shall not be made available on pre-paid cards unless verified as per the norms applicable for post -paid connection. Internet connectivity, without any speed related restrictions, shall continue to be made available with Mac-binding.
Pertinent to mention here that there were speculations of restoring 4G mobile internet in two more districts, one each in Kashmir and Jammu, other than Ganderbal and Udhampur.
