JAMMU, Oct 10: To remember ghazal saint Jagjit Singh, Nirvana Academy – A Cultural Club, Jagjit’s Fans Club (A volunteer initiative) and Aarohi Kala Sangeet Vidhalaya organized a ghazal programme at Sanjay Nagar Jammu. Programme marked awareness campaign among the people to pledge a support in uplifting the ghazal singing.
The event was an initiative to carry forward legendary Jagjit Singh’s legacy and keep his work alive among the today’s youth under the guidance of Hemu Karki chairperson Jagjit Fans Club along with Meenakshi Sharma general secretary Nirvana Academy, Ashutosh Dubey and members of the Club.
As many as 10 Ghazal Singers including child artists of Aarohi and Nirvana Academy took part in the ghazal programme. Kuldeep Kumar noted Ghazal singer of the State sung Jagjit’s famous heart rendering numbers featuring Sadma Toh Hai Mujhe Bhi, Pyar Ka Pehla Khat, Chitthi Na Koi Sandesh, Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rehe Ho etc. Manleen Kour sung Jagjit and Chitra Singh’s ghazal “Tu Nahi Toh Zindgi Mei Aur Kya Reh Jaiga” mesmerized the audience. Sourav Sonik accompanied on tabla and Ajay Sharma on guitar.
Meenakshi Sharma while speaking on the occasion said Jagjit Singh was very fond of children and always promoted new talent. So we at Nirvana Academy and Jagjit Fans Club have decided to continue what he started and make his dream come true by providing platform to explore and encourage talent.
Prominent among others present on occasion included Neeraj Sharma, vice president NA, Nishant Vaid, Shaveta Sharma and Sumit Sharma Cultural Head. Smiley Tanuja anchored the programme.
