KATRA, Oct 20: Nirankari Mission in collaboration with District Red Cross Society organized a blood donation camp at Katra in which hundreds of people and followers of mission participated and donated blood.
The camp was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, who is also chairman of District Red Cross Society.
The camp was held at Government Higher Secondary School Katra and a social function was also organized at the venue. More than 150 persons donated blood in the day long camp. Ajeet Singh of Nirankari mission coordinated the arrangements while Rakesh Wazir vice-president Katra Hotel Association was convener.
Deputy Commissioner, in his address, underlined the importance of voluntary blood donation and sought wider support for the initiative as it is aimed at helping the poor and needy. Terming it the greatest contribution towards the cause humanity and universal brotherhood across regions and religions he called for a mission mode approach in organizing such programmes. He assured full support for all future blood donation camps and also asked the mission to organize a camp at Reasi.
Volunteers from various areas of district reached Katra to donate blood in the camp. A large number of students and social workers also participated.
This was 12th blood donation camp organized by the Mission with active support of the Red Cross. The blood donated by volunteers is provided to hospitals and charitable trusts for needy people in the need of hour.
Addl SP Katra R S Katoch, Tehsildar Gian Chand, Block Medical Officer and prominent citizens were present on the occasion. A spiritual knowledge session was also organized in the afternoon.
