SRINAGAR, Mar 14: The National Investigation Agency today questioned six people, including family members of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, in connection with a 2011 funding case.
Shakeel Yusuf, who works as a Medical Assistant at Srinagar’s Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, appeared before the agency along with five others suspected to have received funds from Salahuddin.
Sources added that NIA also detained other two sons of Salahuddin, Javaid Ahmed and Mohammad Moieed and his son in law Mohammad Umar. However, they were let off without questioning.
Another son of Salahuddin, Shahid Yousuf is in Tihar Jail.
The NIA questioned them over allegations that he used to receive funds sent by his father through a US-based international wire transfer company.
The agency alleged that Yusuf was also “one of several Indian contacts” of a hawala operator based in Saudi Arabia identified as Aijaz Ahmed Bhat, and was alleged to have been in telephonic contact with him for receiving money transfer codes.
