NHRC issued notice to HRD ministry over alleged lathicharge in NIT Srinagar

JAMMU: The National Human Right Commission has issued notices to Central Human Resource Development Ministry and Srinagar police administration over the alleged incident of police lathicharge on non-Kashmiri students in NIT Srinagar campus.

Taking cognisance of a complaint of University of Jammu Law student  Harsh Dubey, the Commission issued notices to Secretary HRD ministry and SSP, Srinagar, calling for status report and the steps being taken to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future, confirmed the commission sources.

The petitioner has requested the apex rights body to constitute a fact finding team, to issue directions to the State Government to take strict action against the police officials who allegedly used cruel and brute force against non-Kashmiri students and to ensure safety and security of all non-Kashmiri students studying in NIT Srinagar.
