NH blocked near Ramban

JAMMU, Oct 10: A large number of vehicles were stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway after landslides occurred near Ramban this evening.
Official sources said that road widening work was in progress at Mehar, just ahead of main bridge over river Chenab near Ramban this evening. At around 5 pm, due to sudden landslides, the highway was blocked.
SSP Traffic National Highway JS Johar was monitoring road clearance operation in Ramban.
Over 100 meters stretch of the road was affected with the landslides. There was no rain in the area today and weather was fair. A large number of vehicles, specially the trucks loaded with apples and coming from Kashmir to Delhi and other parts of the country were stranded.
A Traffic Police official claimed that about 400 Jammu and Delhi bound trucks and public transport vehicles on the either side have been stranded. The National Highway authorities and HCC launched the road clearance work but shooting stones disrupted the operation. The machines were carrying on operation and the road clearance was expected by midnight, the official said.
He further said that after closure of highway the movement of vehicles from Udhampur towards Kashmir was stopped at TPC Jakheni. From Banihal to Ramban also, the movement of passenger vehicles was suspended.
