SRINAGAR, Oct 10: The Non Gazetted Forest Officer Association (NGFOA) today announced its protest programme against Government’s failure to fulfill their pending demands.
In a statement here, the NGFOA said that a “massive agitation” in all the regions Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh shall start from October 17 indefinitely. The association has decided to observe October 29 as ‘Black Day’ and employees will hoist black flags reading slogan as ‘Save Forester Save Forests’ all along the National Highway on the Annual Darbar Move occasion.
They said that a peaceful masked demonstration from Forest Complex to Press Colony on October 23 in Srinagar would be held and on the same day from Dogra Hall to Press Club Jammu as a mark of “injustices done to the forest officers from time to time”. “In addition to this a protest calendar has been prepared and issued to the association members for strict follow up,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, in a meeting where SFS officers were also invited to lend support to the genuine causes of NGFOA, a “strong commitment was shown by SFSOA to stand by the issues of NGFOA”, the statement further read. “However it was advised that while peaceful agitating for the demands the basic essence of the department may not be neglected and therefore it was decided not to extend the agitation to Forest protection works (which includes patrolling and functioning of check posts) and maintenance of nurseries,” the statement added.
Agitated over the Government’s “visible reluctance to remove ineligible people” from the department, the State Forest Service Officers Association (SFSOA) has issued a “list” of all such people and decided to launch a “non-cooperation, disobedience movement against the persons posted as DDOs”.
In a separate statement issued here, all the associations of Forest department today held a meet here which was chaired by president of the SFSOA Iqbal Munshi in which he put forward a proposal of initiating the disobedience movement.
