KATHUA, July 12: District Action Plan, Kathua for National Food Security Mission (NFSM) was discussed in a meeting under the chairmanship of Dr MP Gupta, State consultant for the current year for its effective and successful implementation.
The meeting was attended by more than 18 extension officers including CAO, SMS, SDAOs, AEOs, JAEOs. This scheme has been launched under the patronage of Project Director, Ajay Khajuria (Director Agriculture, Jammu) to increase production of cereals like wheat and rice in the State.
While chairing the meeting, Dr M P Gupta highlighted the vital importance of NFSM, its components, methodology to be adopted for its successful accomplishment. In this behalf, a calendar for organization of season trainings and cluster demonstrations has been devised for NFSM-districts in the State specifying location, date so as to ensure full achievement of set physical and financial targets for the respective district.
During current year, it is proposed to organize 500 farmers’ trainings and cluster demonstrations over an area of 12300 ha in 6 NFSM-Districts of J&K State namely Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Leh & Kargil, which in turn will certainly help to increase food production and decrease in present food deficiency (36%) in the State.
In Kathua alone 500 ha area will be covered under cluster demonstrations which includes 400 hectares under direct seedling/line sowing/SRI and 100 hectares under hybrid seedling. More over 30 trainings will be conducted under NFSM in 2013-14.
