SRINAGAR/JAMMU, May 6: Four persons including a newly wedded couple were killed in cloudburst and lightning strike incidents at two different places in Kashmir today, while three villagers including a woman were injured as lightning hit Kuntwara area of Kishtwar today.
A senior police official said that there was a cloudburst incident at Bujbagh area of Pampore in Pulwama district this afternoon, resulting in the death of two persons- Hilal Ahmed Hanji, 25, and his wife Rozia Jan, 25.

The deceased have been identified as Taja Begum, wife of Abdus Samad Chopan and Mohammad Sultan Chopan, son-in-law of Ghulam Mohammad Chopan of Gurwaith Kalan.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir was lashed by heavy rains today while hills had fresh snowfall leading to drop in temperatures across the region with Weatherman forecasting widespread moderate rain and thunderstorms in the region for next 24 hours.
Kashmir valley was lashed by heavy rains and there were hail-storms at few places and snowfall in the hills.
In many parts of Jammu, including Akhnoor, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Ramban, Samba, Udhampur and Kathua besides some other areas heavy rain occurred this evening. Many parts of Jammu also witnessed strong hailstorm causing damage to the crops.
Reports from Kishtwar said that three villagers including a woman were injured as lightning struck Kuntwara area of Kishtwar today. Reports said Heena Begum, wife of Shabir Hussain, resident of Malie village was standing near her bathroom during thunder-storm and suddenly lightning struck her due to which she received grievous burn injuries in arm and shoulder.
Meanwhile, one Farooq Ahmed, son of Mohd Akbar Ahenger, a resident of Sangna and Shabir Ahmed, son of Ghulam Mohd, resident of Kutal also received minor burn injuries due to lightning in Malie village. No loss of property was reported. The injured have been rushed to nearest Health Center for treatment and later referred to DH Kishtwar.
The higher reaches of Poonch, Doda, Ramban, Reasi, Udhampur and Kishtwar experienced fresh snowfall which caused sharp fall in temperature this evening. Some plain areas of Jammu also experienced windstorm before heavy rain. However, no major loss was reported.
A Meteorological Department official said that there was also a possibility of light rain and thunderstorms at “scattered places” over Jammu division during the time.
For subsequent two days, he said, fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorm was expected in J&K.
“Rain and thunderstorm are most likely to commence from late afternoon and today evening at many places of Kashmir, Zojila-Drass etc. and Jammu region by night,” he said.
From May 7-8, he said, rain and thunderstorm was expected at many places of J&K. “Hailstorm and gusty wind is also possible at scattered places,” he said.
From May 9-12, he said, “mainly dry” weather was expected.
Srinagar recorded a low of 10.4°C against 9.6°C the previous night and it was 0.7°C above normal for the city.
Qazigund recorded a low of 8.0°C against 7.8°C the previous night and it was below normal by 0.5°C for the town.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 5.4°C against 3.6°C the previous night and it was 0.5°C above normal for the famous tourist resort.
Kokernag recorded a low of 8.2°C against 7.0°C the previous night and it was 0.2°C below normal for the place.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 4.0°C against 2.2°C the previous night and it was 0.3°C below normal for the skiing resort.
In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 7.4°C, the same as the previous night and it was 1.0°C below normal for the town. Leh recorded a low of minus 0.4°C.
