REASI, May 1: In a shocking incident revealing the state of affairs in Government hospitals, a woman with her newly born baby was forced to walk home several kilometers as no ambulance was made available for her.
The incident took place at District Hospital Reasi where Nasir Akhtar, wife of Mohd Altaf of Danga Kot, Bhamag was discharged after she delivered a baby. Despite lockdown and consequent non-availability of any transport, the hospital authorities discharge the new mother without arranging an ambulance for her reaching home.
Finding no ambulance or any other transport during this lockdown time, the new mother along with her attendant (father-in-law and mother-in-law) were left with no option other than to walk home on foot around 40 kms.
While talking to the Excelsior, Mohd Hussain, father-in-law of the mother, said that despite repeated calls on number 102 for ambulance service, there was no reply. “Two days back when the ambulance dropped us at the hospital, the driver had demanded Rs 500,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, taking cognizance of the purported incident, the Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Indu Chib has sought explanation from the concerned authorities and assured necessary action for avoiding repeat of such episode .
