JAMMU, Jan 29: The Chamber of Commerce and Industries Jammu has stressed that the new Master Plan should focus on over all development and improvement in the quality of life in Jammu city.
While lauding the steps being initiated by the new Minister for Urban Development Nawang Rigzin Jora for implementing a new Master Plan for 2021 for Jammu city, CCI president Y V Sharma said learning from past bad experience, it is stressed that new proposed Master Plan should focus on the over all development of the city. Various Master Plans have miserably failed to give proper direction to the planned growth of Jammu city.
The result of this uneven growth and poor implementation is in front of everybody today. It has given rise to the un-manageable traffic on roads, bad sanitation, lack of green strips/ spaces, parks and acute shortage of social and physical infrastructure. Mr Sharma said the city is proposed to expand from 175 sq km to 404 sq km in next ten years. The challenge before Master Plan is how to ensure that un-planned growth does not occur in the new extended areas. The Chamber as such feels the view of various stake holders in finalizing new Master Plan should be noted before it is sanctioned by the State Cabinet.
The Master Plan should become People’s Plan and all the stake holders, legislators, bodies be taken into confidence and their suggestions be listened and included for the betterment of the society. It should also be ensured that this plan should not meet the ill-fate, he added.
