New Era of Indian polity

Mahesh Chander Sudan
We, the people of Jammu and Kashmir, are moving into new era of Indian Politics with a hope to be dealt with required sensitivity by the national leadership. The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been going through a difficult time for last three decades. Reinstallation of BJP government with thumping majority raises the hopes of people of J&K in general and the Kashmiri Pundits in specific.BJP dispensation during their first tenure under the leadership of Narendra Modi have shown concern for Kashmiri Pundits who are living exiled life for last three decades but could not undertake any concrete step owing political compulsion. We therefore expect a well-drawn road map for solving long outstanding Kashmir issue, opening avenue for honorable return of Kashmiri Pundits to valley with dignity and security of life and property, creating infrastructural development to create job opportunity for youth of Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring undisturbed life to population living close to LOC and IB against infiltration and unprovoked firing by our neighbour and political stability for sustained growth at par with other states. Lack of modern health services, higher education for children and industrialization to accelerate development of the state for bringing in inclusive governance not only in words but in deeds. We have suffered a setback for last three decades due to ongoing terrorism which not only killed a large number of defense personnel but also local youths and many innocent citizens across the religions. We urge new dispensation to assess ground reality and guide local Government to handle alienation of local youths and save them from falling into the trap of terrorists who are bent upon making the ongoing proxy war into mass movement to regain international sympathy. Our security forces have been carrying out All out operationvery successfully but the issue in hand needs to be dealt comprehensively leaving no gap for exploitation by active terrorist groups. Another area requiring diligent handling before return of Kashmiri Pundits to valley is removal of trust deficit that has emerged out of prevailing situation for last three decades and this needs active involvement of civil administration in creating favorable social acceptance amongst masses especially young generation of both majority and minority communities of the valley. Kashmiri Pundits deserve an honorable welcome by their Muslim brothers with clear acceptance accorded to them socially and not as a matter of administrative settlement and return to their mother land. The vibrant culture of Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pundits and the beautiful valley is craving for their return.
With the swearing in ceremony of NDA dispensation, we all citizens of Jammu and Kashmir look forward for an interactive and inclusive approach towards early restoration of deferred democracy by holding state elections so that we have adequate representation in the governance through elected Members of Legislative Assembly rather than temporary arrangement of Governor/President Rule. The Constitution of J&K does provide an alternate arrangement to cope up with Political crisis as an exception and not as a routine. Delay in holding democratic exercise selectively in a state that is suffering from sponsored unrest by terrorists groups lowers the morale of the people in general and affects their trust in the system indirectly helping antinational groups to achieve their target by default. We therefore urge the newly formed BJP dispensation to form a dedicated team of Ministers to look after J&K affairs so that a multipronged approach in handling Kashmir issue holistically is achieved. Let us assure unflinching support to the Government from our side so that we regain olden days of fearless, trustful, people friendly environment throughout the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.
