New aspect of arms licenses surfaces in Doda

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, July 18: New aspect of issuance of arms licenses has surfaced in Doda district with Deputy Commissioner Simrandeep Singh seeking detailed report from all the Tehsildars by or before August 30.
As per the notice issued by the Deputy Commissioner Doda, it has come to the fore that various Tehsildars (Executive Magistrates, Ist Class) of the district have issued number of arms licenses in respect of SBML (Muzzle loading)/Dessi Guns.
The holders of such licenses are now approaching the Deputy Commissioner’s office for renewal of their licenses despite the fact that as per Rule 15 of the Arms Rules, 2016 and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, all licenses are required to be entered into NDAL and were to obtain a Unique Identification Number (UIN) by or before a cut-off date which has now ended.
“Even otherwise the NDAL doesn’t accept licenses issued by Tehsildars as they were never competent to issue such licenses”, the notice said.
The Deputy Commissioner has sought information related to such licenses, which were void ab-initio needs to be complied for taking further decision in consultation with higher authorities.
“All the SBML/Dessi Gun license holders of Doda district whose licenses were issued/renewed by Tehsildars from time to time are advised to immediately report to their respective Tehsildars (Executive Magistrate Ist Class) along with the original license books”, reads the notice.
The Deputy Commissioner has further directed the Tehsildars to compile the information and submit tehsil wise data by or before August 30, 2018 for further necessary action.
