Network 18 launches Indian news channel for UK

LONDON, June 14:  Britain is to get a new tailor-made Indian news channel from next month, ahead of a roll-out across the world.
News18 India will structure prime-time news on the channel for a global Indian audience based in the UK.
“At a time when the world is watching India, we hope to be the world’s window to India. News18 India will bring one of the country’s most formidable news networks to a global audience,” said Rajdeep Sardesai, editor-in-chief of India’s IBN Network.
“This channel will be different to what has been seen so far. For the first time, we will change our prime-time to fit into British prime-time with special bulletins and features that audiences in the UK will relish,” he added.
The 24-hour channel is being distributed in the UK by India Cast, a strategic joint venture between TV18 and Viacom 18.
“India’s resurgence on the world stage is evident from the almost insatiable global interest in its present as well as its future. This presents a compelling opportunity to deliver a service that fulfils this need in a relevant manner and News18 India is our answer,” explains Raghav Bahl, founder and editor of Network 18.
“News18 India fulfils the clear need in the international market for a comprehensive business and political news service focused on India. The addition of this channel is yet another step in India Cast’s portfolio expansion of brands for the Indian community overseas,” said Anuj Gandhi, Group CEO of India Cast, which had launched entertainment channel ‘Rishtey’ for the UK market recently.
Following its entry into the UK market, News18 India will be launching across the the US, Middle East, Canada and Australia. (PTI)
