JAMMU, July 2: Natrang’s National Theatre Talk Show, ‘Young Voices of Theatre’ today featured National School of Drama alumni, theatre, film and TV actor, director, daughter of the soil, Neelu Dogra where she shared her stimulating thoughts with the global audience at the Facebook page of Natrang Jammu.
Born and brought up in Jammu, Neelu completed her diploma in acting from the National School of Drama, New Delhi in the year 1999. She started her career with theatre with Natrang Jammu in the year 1993 and has since then acted in various stage plays, Tele-serials, web series and media.
Presently, she lived in Singapore for the last eight years and was actively involved in theatre acting, direction and conducting workshops. She was also a trainer with The Actor Prepares Center in Mumbai headed by Anupam Kher. She also has the credit of spearheading the first ever Hindi Theatre Festival – “Dastak” in Singapore which is in its 3rd season now.
She got an opportunity to work with Balaji Tele-films and acted in the serial “Daayan” which aired on &TV, and “Kasauti Zindagi Ki – 2” on Star Plus and have recently worked in Rahat Kazmi’s feature film 2 Band Radio and was also awarded with the ‘Best Supporting Actress Award’ at LIFFT India Film Festival Lonavala for this film.
In an interesting conversation with Natrang’s senior artist Neeraj Kant, Neelu narrated her eventful journey of theatre. She fondly remembered her formative years of theatre spent meaningfully at Natrang. Moreover, she got tremendous support from her parents to pursue theatre as a career.
She believes that when it comes to changing the mindset of people, theatre is the most powerful medium. She also shared memories of doing Dogri film ‘Bobo Kadun Aaog’ with Ved Rahi. Having already done a good volume of impactful theatre before getting academically trained, Neelu became the first girl from J&K to make it to NSD.
She also asserted that there is no difference between theatre and film acting, though technicality is different. In theatre, one gets a chance to attain perfection through rehearsals but once on stage, there is no scope for retake, but in camera, one gets retakes.
National School of Drama alumni, theatre, film & TV actor, director, Palash Protim Mech would be featured tomorrow in this talk.
