TRICHY, Jan 11:
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said there was an urgent need to reorient syllabus and teaching methodologies in educational institutions to train students on par with industry requirements.
Students coming out of the portals of educational institutions must acquire employable or entrepreneurial skills to face the competitive world in this technology-driven 21st century, he said, while delivering the 21st Convocation Address at Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College (Autonomous) and awarding degrees to the graduates.
He said education must develop holistic personality of the students.
Noting tht every college must also pay greater attention to skill development as India was blessed with a huge demographic dividend, he said ”institutions such as yours must lay greater emphasis on skill development and establish industry linkages to give students the first hand experience of working in an enterprise and at the same time cultivates the spirit of entrepreneurship to enable them to stand on their own feet”.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he said “We want the education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on one’s own feet”.
Education was meant for enlightenment, enhancement of knowledge, empowerment and employment, Mr Venkaiah said, adding, it must prepare the students with adequate life skills to face challenges.
It must empower people to make informed choices and strive for societal benefit, he said. (UNI)
